This is the 4th tip in our eBook How to Play Craps – 11 Rolls to Win.

Have you ever heard the phrase “You have to play to win?”

Well, get ready to roll! It’s easy to play once you know the basic craps bets. There are more than 40 different types of craps bets, but don’t be alarmed, we are only going to cover the basic bets which get you started.

The first bet is the pass line bet. Before a new shooter begins to roll (come out roll), you place your bet on the pass line.

  • You win if the shooter rolls a 7 or 11
  • You lose if the shooter rolls a 2, 3, or 12

It’s that easy!

Are you wondering what happens if the shooter rolls a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10? You don’t win or lose. That number becomes the point number. The shooter must continue to roll to determine your luck.

  • You win if the shooter rolls the point number again before a seven
  • You lose if the shooter rolls a seven before the point number is rolled again

Here’s an example:

  • A new shooter rolls a 4 and a 2. The dice totals 6 and is now the “point”.
  • The dealer puts a marker on the number 6 on the table layout
  • The shooter must roll a 6 before he rolls a 7
  • If he rolls a 6 – then the pass line bet wins and the shooter begins a new come-out roll
  • If the shooter rolls a 7 before a 6, the pass line bets lose and the dice are passed to the next shooter

The next type of bet is known as the odds Bet.

Once the point is established the bettor can make this additional bet behind the pass line bet. The odds bet is the only bet in the casino that does not have a house edge as is paid off with true odds. Most casinos offer double odds for the odds bet, however, at The Big “M” Casino we offer 5 X odds!! This means you can make a bet five times the size of your pass line bet!

Here’s an example:

If your pass line bet is $5 you are allowed to make an odds bet of $25. The odds bet is paid as follows:

  • If the point is 4 or 10 it pays 2 to 1
  • If the point is 5 or 9 it pays 3 to 2
  • If the point is 6 or 8 it pays 6 to 5

Just remember that a pass line bet is simple and easy and will get you into the fun at the craps table in no time. If you feel lucky, try the odds bet!
